The Sep's Pro Side Planer is a trolling planer designed to divert the trolling line away from the boat intending to be a bit more stealth. The Pro Side Planer, from Sep's Fishing, is used to intercept those fish that are spooked to the side of your trolling boat/motor. Side planer's are engineered to redirect trolling lines far off the side of the boat away from any sort of propwash from the trolling motor. Sep's Pro Side Planer is a favorite among trout and kokanee anglers largely due to its fluorescent red color and the overall simplicity of its design - its very light in weight and easy to use. The release clip mounting turns in the planer in order to properly set it for the side you plan to troll it - left or right. To rig up the planer, let our your line to the desired length, attach the swivel to the line then attach the Pro Side Planer to the line so the arm is towards the tip of the rod. Next, attach the release to the line and put the plainer in the water with the rod tip up high as you allow the board to run out off the side of the boat. You should keep the rod high in the rod holder as it keeps the planer running better. When a fish strikes it will pull out from the release, the planer which is still attached to the line via the swivel, will slide down until it hits the leader at which time you should reel it up, detach the planer and continue fighting the fish. Should the fish not pull the release out, just reel it in and unhook the planer from your line manually. The planer will run on an about 45 degree angle out from the rod tip.
